There's Hope in the Big Smoke

This week we took a very exciting trip to London, not just a city visit but to present in front of a panel of judges as finalists for the HSJ Value Awards. Our category is 'Using Information Technology to Drive Value in Clinical Services.'

This week we took a very exciting trip to London, not just a city visit but to present in front of a panel of judges as finalists for the HSJ Value Awards.  Our category is 'Using Information Technology to Drive Value in Clinical Services.'

We made our entry around using Virtual Patient Consultations in our clinics, and were then shortlisted for this prestigious award.  Our presentation in Shoreditch, London involved a collaborative team including Helen Sutcliffe from Yorkshire Fertility, Richard Hill from The Health Informatics Service and Sarah Savage Edwards from BLOCK.  These three teams have worked together to implement an amazing service to improve patient experience and convenience.  By offering virtual patient consultations we are able to take away some of the stress that comes with fertility appointments.  We also find it helps since we cover such a large geographical area where some patients are having to travel long distances for an appointment with the doctor.  The future efficiencies of this service are endless and we hope to increase usage in the next year.

The judges were highly impressed with our presentation which included an introductory recording of Mr DeBono and then a team presentation from Helen, Richard and Sarah.  The panel had lots of questions to ask and seemed really interested in our story.  We also had the chance to meet Mike Crooks - Lead Software Architect at Block Solutions who actually built the software himself.  Mike was extremely pleased to meet us and to hear how it has helped our clinicians and patients.

Soon after the presentation we were on our way back up north to feed back the positive news.  Now all we have to do is wait until the 7th June where there will be an awards ceremony in Manchester, here we will have the chance to network with the biggest and best health care organisations in the UK.  Fingers crossed Yorkshire Fertility will come home with a trophy!
