Use of weight loss drugs during pregnancy
A few of our patients have recently been asking if it is safe to take the weight loss drugs, including Mounjaro, during pregnancy. The clinical advice, and advice from the drug manufacturer is that Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, as there is not enough information to know if it could harm an unborn baby.
This is based on current manufacturer guidance and established clinical recommendations. You can read the manufacturer’s patient information leaflet, which states on page 26 that Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy. It is also specifically advised that Mounjaro should be stopped at least four weeks before starting any form of fertility treatment.
If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are planning a pregnancy, you can speak to your healthcare professional about the use of weight loss medication.
